Engineered and manufactured in South Korea, the SMG SH-550 CNC Gear Hobbing Machine delivers the capacity, rigidity, and versatility required for large-diameter gear production. Designed for manufacturers seeking a dependable platform for demanding gear-cutting applications, the SH-550 combines a substantial work envelope with six-axis CNC control and a robust production-ready configuration.

The SH-550 accommodates workpieces up to Ø410 mm with a ring loader and up to Ø550 mm in a stand-alone, manually loaded configuration. With a maximum capacity of M8, equivalent to 3.175 DP, the machine is well suited for producing larger spur, helical, and other precision gear components. A Ø330 mm worktable and maximum table speed of 200 rpm provide the foundation for stable, accurate machining across a wide range of applications.

At the center of the SH-550 is a high-performance hob head capable of accepting hobs up to Ø190 × 230 mm. The hob spindle delivers 15 kW of output, operates at speeds up to 1,000 rpm, and provides 210 mm of tangential hob-shift travel. A ±45-degree hob-head swivel range and BBT40 hob-arbor taper provide the flexibility and rigidity needed for a variety of gear geometries and cutting processes.

The machine is equipped with a Siemens 828D CNC control and six controlled axes—X, Y, Z, A, B, and C. Rapid traverse rates of 12 m/min on the X and Z axes and 5 m/min on the Y axis support efficient positioning and reduced non-cutting time. The standard configuration also includes wet and dry cutting capability, a C-axis oil cooler, automatic lubrication, hob-centering equipment, an electrical-cabinet air conditioner, and a UPS-powered automatic retract system.
